Weekly Drills 'n' Skills classes at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs:
8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Cardio with Karen Connell. $15.
Noon to 1 p.m. Stroke of the Week with Ryan Winters. The course will cover groundstrokes on the first Monday of the month, volleys and overheads in Week 2, slices, lobs and drop shots in Week 3 and serving in Week 4. $12.

Weed Advisory Board seeks volunteers to fill positions
The Routt County Weed Advisory Board is seeking volunteers to fill openings in the South Routt and North Routt districts. Letters of interest are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Routt County Road and Bridge Department or at the Extension office. Call Greg Brown at 970-870-5246 for information.
Partners collecting books for Routt middle schools
Partners in Routt County is collecting books for Routt County middle schools in connection with the Colorado Reads Book Drive, which has a goal of collecting 10,000 books across the state, according to a news release. Donate to the drive by bringing a new or gently use children's book to Off the Beaten Path Bookstore or Partners in Routt County through Monday. Horizons Specialized Services provides free screenings for children. If you're a parent and are concerned about your child's development, call Kathy Northcutt at 970-871-8558. Weed Program to sponsor class beginning Jan. 30
The Routt County Weed Program is sponsoring a weekly class about "Weed Management and Land Conservation Practices." The class is from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 30 and continuing through March 6. Space is limited, and the tuition fee is $35.
Topics to be covered during the course include general botany, plant ecology, weed and poisonous plant identification, weed management strategies, herbicide use, biological control options, equipment choices and sprayer calibration. The course aims to help landowners make wise land-use decisions.

VNA offers birth control, screenings for women
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association's Women's Health Clinic is offering low cost birth control, STD screenings, pap smears, breast exams and general women's health care based on income. Registration is open for Steamboat Pentathlon
Registration is open for the Steamboat Pentathlon on March 9. The multisport race includes Alpine skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking and running. Standard and short courses are available for teams or individuals. The cost is $50 for youths 17 and younger, $100 for adults, $160 for adult duos, $150 for youth teams and $225 for adult teams. Registration is open through March 4, but fees increase by $20 on Feb. 15. All racers will receive an event T-shirt and lunch as well as be entered into the prize raffle drawing.
