Steamboat briefs: VNA offers breathing screenings

Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is offering free breathing screenings and asthma education during the 2009-10 school year for school-age children in Routt, Jackson and Moffat counties. For more information, contact Victoria Barron at 970-875-1883.
VNA also offers free breathing screenings for people who have breathing problems or asthma in Routt, Moffat and Jackson counties. Spirometry testing, pulmonary functions studies, prescription medications, asthma management and education are available. Contact Barron for more information or to schedule a screening.
Builders' group places Toys for Tots collection boxes
The Home Builders Association of Steamboat Springs has placed Toys for Tots collection boxes at All That Jazz; Alpine Bank; City Market; Embellishments; Epilogue Book Co.; F.M. Light & Sons; Laurel Street Preschool; Off The Beaten Path Bookstore; Safeway; Snow Bowl; Steamboat Ski Area, through Dianne Stoyko at 970-871-5403; and Steamboat Motors. The association is accepting new, unwrapped toys; new or gently used coats; scarves; gloves; hats; sweaters; and winter items. If you or someone you know is in need, contact Kelly Stanford at the Routt County United Way, at 879-5605. HBA members will distribute toys Dec. 21 to 23 at Bud Werner Memorial Library.
Cultural integration group is seeking volunteers
Integrated Community is seeking bilingual volunteers to assist the organization with its resource and referral program Mondays and Wednesdays. Parenting support system offers resource information
Newborn Network is a support system dedicated to providing parenting and resource information to all families who live in Routt County and have children ages 3 and younger. Newborn Network's free services include weekly networking and education groups, parenting education home visits, a lending library of parenting topics and a series of gift bags. Parents of children ages 3 and younger can call 970-879-0977 for more information about support services.
Adult day services offered at The Haven in Hayden
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is offering adult day services at The Haven Assisted Living in Hayden, for any disabled individual older than age 18 or an elderly individual who is looking for daily activities where oversight is provided. Services are provided from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Meals, medication administration, activities, assistance with bathing and wellness assessments are available.
