Steamboat briefs: Telemark World Cup set to run next week in Steamboat

The Telemark World Cup is from Monday through Feb. 18 in Steamboat Springs. Event organizers are seeking volunteers to help with gate judging, timing, course work and more. Volunteers will earn Steamboat lift tickets. Contact email@example.com or 970-879-0695, ext. 108.
Oil & Gas Symposium will be March 14 in Hayden
The Northwest Colorado Oil & Gas Symposium is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. March 14 in the Hayden High School auditorium. The symposium covers topics including oil and gas prices, fracking, wildlife and mineral leases. Speakers include attorney Ralph Cantafio, Routt County Planning Department Director Chad Phillips and John Lamb, of Steamboat Energy Consultants. The cost is $20 per person, and dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Register by March 9 by calling the Community Agriculture Alliance at 970-879-4370.
A free community blood drive is Thursday at YVMC
A community blood drive is from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Yampa Valley Medical Center. To schedule an appointment, call Bonfils Appointment Center at 1-800-365-0006, option 2, or sign up online at http://www.bonfils.org, site code 0234. Walk-ins are welcome from 3 to 5:30 p.m. as space permits. Eat a full meal and drink plenty of water before donating blood.
Cody's Challenge ski race and fundraiser is March 17

Cody's Challenge, a Randonee ski race and fundraiser, is at 8:30 a.m. March 17 at Steamboat Ski Area. Participants should load the gondola from 7:45 to 8 a.m. The cost is $60 for the race or $100 for the race and a lift ticket. Proceeds go toward scholarships to assist ski patrollers with furthering their medical educations.

Claire Parsons, a 2011 Steamboat Springs High School graduate, has been named to the dean's list during her freshman year at Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

Hayden Public Library is hosting a series of free computer classes through February. Instruction lasts 30 minutes with time to practice afterward. Classes are as follows: Facebook at 3 p.m. Monday, Microsoft Excel at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Microsoft Word at 6 p.m. Wednesday, navigating popular websites at 1 p.m. Feb. 21, Microsoft Excel at 2 p.m. Feb. 21, Microsoft Word at 6 p.m. Feb. 22, photo uploading is at noon Feb. 27, selling on the Internet at 1 p.m. Feb. 28, Microsoft Excel at 3 p.m. Feb. 28 and Microsoft Word at 6 p.m. Feb. 29.
