Steamboat briefs: Teen Council forum is Wednesday in Steamboat

The Steamboat Springs Teen Council hosts a forum at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill for teens to come and learn more about the council. The Steamboat Springs Teen Council was created to give teens a voice in the community on social, environmental and political issues. The forum is intended to provide teens with an opportunity to share any issues of concern to them with council members, educate the community about the existence of teen council and its goals and to recruit new members for the 2011-12 school year. There will be free pizza and gelato from Ciao Gelato.

Yampatika scholarship goes to Nebraska girl

Addison Henry, of Loup City, Neb., won the 2011 Yampatika Kid's Camp Scholarship sponsored by the Rebecca Adams Green Foundation, according to a news release. The foundation was created in 2010 to honor the memory of Steamboat Springs resident Rebecca Green, who died in 2009. The mission of the foundation is to brighten the future of children through education and nature-based experiences.

"Rebecca loved this area and these mountains. We are excited to be able to share her environment with kids who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it. Our hope is that it will have a lasting, positive effect on their lives," said Jenifer Adams-Mitchell, president of the foundation and sister of Rebecca.

Addison, 12, will attend the Yampatika Wilderness Pioneers I camp July 12 tp 15. She will be accompanied in Steamboat Springs by her parents, Kim and Paul.
