Steamboat briefs: Tasaru Girls School Fund presents ‘The First Grader’

Steamboat Springs — The Tasaru Girls School Fund presents a screening of "The First Grader," a PG-13 film based on the true story of an 84-year-old Kenyan man's determination to go to school. Montessori Soiree benefits scholarship, building fund
The Steamboat Springs Montessori Soiree fundraiser is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Barn Village. Tickets cost $35 per person or $60 per couple and include live music, wine, heavy hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and more. Tickets are available at Jack and Jill Consignment or by calling 970-879-8108. All proceeds benefit the Steamboat Springs Montessori preschool and kindergarten scholarship and building fund.
Registration now open for Steamboat All Arts Festival
Registration is open for local artists to participate in this year's Steamboat All Arts Festival. The festival is a four-day event that highlights arts and culture in the Yampa Valley and features local and nationally renowned artists. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 16 to 19. Registration open for 1st Steamboat Mad Mudder
Steamboat's first Mad Mudder 5-kilometer run and obstacle course is set for July 7. Presented by NRC Broadcasting and Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., the race will take place at Steamboat Ski Area and will include a hill climb, sprint race, mud pit and features such as a climbing wall, balance beam and tire course. Participants register as individuals but can sign up to run alongside a partner or team. Registration is $45 through April 15, $55 from April 16 to May 15 and $65 from May 16 to June 15. Children's developmental screenings held Thursday
Children's developmental screenings are all day Thursday at Hayden Valley Elementary School. Screenings are for children from birth to age 5. Cognitive, motor, speech, hearing and vision screenings will be offered. Preschool registration also will be taken. Call 970-276-3756 for an appointment.
USDA offers emergency loans for flooding losses
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced that Farm Service Agency emergency loans are available to eligible producers for losses caused by flooding from May 18 to July 8, 2011. Producers must file an application by March 22. For more information, call Laurie Neilson at 970-242-9133, ext. 2.
Center offers scholarships for Steamboat seniors
The Steamboat Springs Center for Visual Arts, 906 Lincoln Ave., is offering two $500 college scholarships for seniors at Steamboat Springs High School who will be pursuing visual art studies after graduation.
