Steamboat Ski Area lifts will begin operating on a spring schedule Saturday because of extended daylight hours, according to a news release. New lift closing times are as follows:
3:30 p.m. Morningside and Pony Express
3:45 p.m. Storm Peak Express, Sundown Express and Sunshine Express
4 p.m. Burgess Creek, South Peak, Preview, gondola and Thunderhead Express
4:15 p.m. Elkhead
4:30 p.m. Christie Peak Express

Red Cross baby-sitting class to begin March 12
An American Red Cross baby-sitting class for middle school students is from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays from March 12 to May 7. Participants will learn the business of baby-sitting, child development and correct techniques for playing with, holding, changing and feeding infants, toddlers and children. The class also will include infant and child CPR and first aid. The $100 registration fee includes snacks, American Red Cross training materials and supplies. The registration deadline is 5:30 p.m. March 7. Gale graduates from CU on Jan. 20 with bachelor's
Erica Gale, a 2009 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder on Jan. 20 with a Bachelor of Arts in international affairs and a minor in Italian. In her final semester at CU, Gale made the College of Arts and Sciences dean's list, which requires full-time students to hold a 3.75 or better GPA.
Workshop on solutions for water measuring March 5
A water-measurement solutions workshop is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 5 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave. The workshop will cover local administration and compliance and potential funding opportunities for bringing structures into compliance. Youth EcoSummit now set for evening of March 23
A Youth EcoSummit has been rescheduled. The summit now will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. March 23. The inaugural conference for Routt County students in fourth grade through college is sponsored by the Sustainable Schools program and the Colorado Mountain College Student Sustainability Group, according to a news release.
The goals of the summit are:
■ To connect students and teachers who are promoting sustainability in schools
■ To empower students to make a difference in our community
■ To collaborate with peers on fostering green initiatives
