Steamboat briefs: Steamboat School Board to discuss budget tonight
March 15, 2010
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs School Board meets at 6 p.m. today at Centennial Hall, 124 10th St., for a meeting featuring an overview of the Steamboat Springs School District's 2010-11 budget. District officials are projecting a $2 million shortfall in the coming academic year, because of factors including a likely reduction in state funding and increased costs of health and retirement benefits. Superintendent Shalee Cunningham has projected an 8 percent decrease in state funding. Finance Director Dale Mellor said a preliminary budget likely won't be presented for School Board approval until June 30. Call district offices at 879-1530 for details about tonight's meeting.
