Steamboat briefs: Spelling bee benefitting senior services is June 9

The second annual Community Spelling Bee benefitting services for senior citizens in Routt County will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. June 9 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Spelling wizards are invited to form teams of three spellers including at least one senior citizen age 60 or older. Registration fees are $50 per team if submitted by June 1 and $60 after that date. Be Great Brunch fundraiser set for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5
The Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs' Be Great Brunch fundraiser is at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5 at Three Peaks Grill. The champagne and jazz brunch will feature live music and auction items with sports broadcasting legend Verne Lundquist as the emcee. Bow elk hunt auctioned to support Haven in Hayden
A bow elk hunt offered by Topgun Outfitters is being auctioned with the proceeds supporting the Haven Assisted Living Center in Hayden. The online auction closes at 5 p.m. June 22, and the winner will be announced at the third annual Haven Barbecue and Barn Dance at 8 p.m. June 23. Carnival fundraiser set to benefit elementary schools
The Spring into Summer Carnival fundraiser is from June 7 to 10. Proceeds benefit Soda Creek and Strawberry Park elementary schools and Steamboat Springs Middle School. Advance tickets are available at all Steamboat Springs School District offices and at All That Jazz. One-day, unlimited ride tickets are $20 in advance and $30 day-of. Advance tickets are limited and can be purchased with cash or checks (payable to the Parent Information Committee) only. Entry to the carnival is free, but rides, games and concessions require tokens. Tokens are $1 each. Small rides are three to four tokens and larger rides are four to five tokens.
Waterline along Elk River Road is set to be replaced
The city of Steamboat Springs, contracting with Duckels Construction, will be replacing the waterline along Elk River Road from U.S. Highway 40 to Copper Ridge Circle. The project is scheduled to run from mid-June through September and will require northbound traffic to be detoured to Downhill Drive. Accesses to businesses along Elk River Road will be maintained.
For more information, the public is invited to attend informational meetings from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 6 p.m. June 7 in the American Legion Room at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.
