Steamboat briefs: South Routt School Board to discuss finances today
March 4, 2010
The South Routt School Board is scheduled to discuss whether to declare fiscal exigency at tonight's meeting at the district administrative offices in Oak Creek. If approved, it will be the first legal step for the district to lay off employees before the 2010-11 school year, if it chooses to do so to help address a projected budget shortfall in excess of $472,000.
The board also is expected to discuss whether to ask voters to approve a mill levy override to help make up the shortfall.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with the board members entering executive session to discuss Superintendent Scott Mader's yearly review and existing and new contracts. The discussions about fiscal exigency and a mill levy override referendum are scheduled to follow at 5 p.m. during the regular session of the meeting. A work session to continue discussing the 2010-11 budget is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
