The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland is allowing free use of its day-use sites Saturday, according to a news release.
This free day is being offered nationally in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day, an annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. Additional free days will be Sept. 28 for National Public Lands Day and Nov. 9 to 11 for Veterans Day weekend.
Day-use sites, which typically require a $5 per day fee, include picnic areas and developed trailheads. Campgrounds are not included.

Work begins Monday on Mount Werner medians
Work begins Monday to enhance Mount Werner Circle medians between Eagle Ridge Drive and just west of Burgess Creek Road, according to a news release.
The Steamboat Springs Redevelopment Authority, in contract with Native Excavating, is working on the project that consists of hard surfacing and landscaping existing medians.
One lane will be closed around Mount Werner Circle with all traffic between Eagle Ridge Drive and Mount Werner Road traveling only counter-clockwise. Those trying to reach The Steamboat Grand, Ski Time Square and Burgess Creek Road will need to use the Après Ski Way roundabout to access those areas from Mount Werner Road.
The road temporarily will reopen to normal traffic from Thursday to June 16 for the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup.
Call city project manager Danny Paul at 970-871-8210 for more information.
