Steamboat briefs: Scott-Kelley graduates from basic training

Army Pvt. Brittany June J. Scott-Kelley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, Scott-Kelley studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Scott-Kelley is the daughter of Amara and Benjamin Womack, of Yampa.

'Finding Balance Forum' is Saturday in Steamboat

Yampa Valley Medical Center's Integrated Health presents the "Finding Balance Forum" from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Colorado Mountain College. The program will feature presentations by cardiologist Dr. William Baker, internist Dr. Charlie Petersen and Integrated Health Director Angela Melzer.

Participants can choose three breakout sessions from a variety of topics including nutrition, acupuncture, mindfulness meditation, Qigong and yoga. Session leaders are registered dieticians Laura Stout and Cara Marrs; licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist Kelley McDaneld; Old Town Hot Springs fitness director Simone Oliver; registered yoga therapist Lynda VanTassle; and massage therapist and Qigong instructor Sarah Freese. Computer virus protection class offered at the library

A free class about computer virus protection is from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday (March 12) in Bud Werner Memorial Library's small conference room. Learn best practices for virus protection as well as why you should monitor your computer. Space is limited. RSVP to Cathy Neelan at 970-879-5113.

County extension office seeks new board members

The Routt County Extension Office is seeking new board members for three-year terms. The advisory board gives direction and advice to the Routt County Board of Commissioners and to Extension Office staff. The board meets as many as four times a year to set priorities and goals and to review the Extension Office's performance.

Local groups reach out to returning service members

The Routt County Veterans Affairs, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4264 and American Legion Post 44 in Steamboat would like to meet and greet local sons and daughters returning from military service.
