Steamboat briefs: Renowned author to host cancer presentation Tuesday

Susanne Alexander, author of "Empowered Healing, Creating Quality of Life While Journeying through Cancer," speaks from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Yampa Valley Medical Center conference room. The advice and knowledge in "Empowered Healing" comes from Susanne's experience taking care of her late husband, Craig Farnsworth, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2007. She will discuss how cancer changes relationships with families and friends and how people can integrate the physical, spiritual, mental and emotional elements of healing. Attendees will receive lunch and a complimentary copy of her book. Alexander's presentation is a free community health program from YVMC.

On Wednesday, Alexander will speak to local health care professionals.

Also Tuesday, Dr. Maryann Wall will present a Taking Care of Me program about melanoma at 6 p.m. in the conference rooms. Melanoma is the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer in Colorado. The talk, "Melanoma: Know the Signs, Save Your Own Life," will provide important information about this serious skin cancer.

The free programs are sponsored by YVMC's Cancer Care Services and the 4 Yellow Foundation.
