Steamboat briefs: Registration is open for open water swim series

Registration opens Wednesday for Old Town Hot Springs' new open water swim series to be held in July at Bald Eagle Lake. The open water swim series features half-mile and 1-mile swims for participants 11 and older. Races will be held at 6 p.m. every Monday in July. Wet suits are recommended. Swimmers can register for four races for $90 or all five races for $100. Individual races cost $25 in advance or $35 the day of the race. Steamboat library offering 6-week ‘Henry V’ workshop

Bud Werner Memorial Library presents a six-week Shakespeare workshop focusing on "Henry V" led by veteran English teacher Sally Frostic. The workshop is from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Feb. 1 and ending March 7. It is geared toward first-time and experienced Shakespeare readers. The overall emphasis is on enjoyment of "Henry V" through discussions, reading brief excerpts together and learning about the playwright and his world. CMC offering a geographic information systems class

Colorado Mountain College's Alpine Campus offers a geographic information systems class beginning Feb. 1 through March 28. The class introduces students to the mapping systems and global position systems data. The class meets from 5:30 to 7:20 p.m. in Bristol Hall, Room 319. Register by Thursday for youth basketball league

Registration is open for the Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department's youth basketball league. Youths in third through sixth grades are welcome to play in the noncompetitive league. Registration is $75 and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the Thursday deadline. VNA hosts flu clinics on Thursdays in Steamboat

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone ages 6 months and older be vaccinated against the flu. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is reporting confirmed cases of influenza that have resulted in patient hospitalization. The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is offering drop-in immunization clinics from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays at its Steamboat Springs office, 940 Central Park Drive. Adult flu shots are $16, and children's flu shots/FluMist are $14 or less. Visit or call the flu hotline at 970-871-7624.

Yoga Story-time is offered for children at the library

Children are invited to Yoga Story-time on Thursday in the Story-time Room at Bud Werner Memorial Library. The free program combines folktales and storytelling with yoga and movement. A class for preschool children is at 3:30 p.m., and a class for elementary school children is at 4:30 p.m. Wear comfortable clothes and bring water and a yoga mat or towel.
