Steamboat briefs: Program coordinator for Yampatika to leave group

Yampatika program coordinator Melissa Calhoon has been hired as director of student support services at Colorado Mesa University and plans to relocate to Grand Junction, according to a news release.
Calhoon was hired in 2010 and during her tenure has assisted with the expansion of the environmental literacy program; overseen Naturalists, volunteers and service-learning attendees; and assisted with grant tracking and reporting.
Calhoon will remain with Yampatika through summer staff training June 15.
Success Steps luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. June 14
A Success Steps luncheon titled "10 Principles for Accelerating Your Professional Success Now" is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 14 at Steamboat Smokehouse, 912 Lincoln Ave. The $15 seminar includes lunch. DMV offers license plates for World War II veterans
The Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles offers a license plate for World War II veterans, according to a news release. To be eligible, veterans must present a DD-214 or equivalent document that proves that he or she served in the military between Sept. 16, 1940, and July 25, 1947. One set of plates per veteran is exempt from the $25 fee. The plates may be ordered at the local Department of Motor Vehicles office.
Service Learning Institute now accepting applications
The Service Learning Institute is accepting applications for students entering sixth through ninth grades in the fall. Youths participate in local volunteer projects, gain civic pride and self-development while having fun on a crew. Orientation is Friday. Choose from four, two-week summer sessions from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The cost is $25.
