Steamboat briefs: Northwest Colorado VNA reminds about vaccines

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is reminding those who are heading to Mexico or the Caribbean for spring break to get a hepatitis A vaccination. Hepatitis A is prevalent in less developed countries and infection occurs by ingesting contaminated food or water. The VNA will offer drop-in clinics for routine vaccinations from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays at 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101. Summer camps through Yampatika are available
Yampatika summer camp for youths ages 5 to 14 will be from June 17 to Aug. 14.
■ Weeklong Yampatykes sessions for children ages 5 and 6 are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 17 to 21, June 24 to 28, July 8 to 12 and July 29 to Aug. 2. The cost per session is $220 for members or $270 for nonmembers.
■ Weeklong Nature Explorers sessions for children ages 7 and 8 are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 17 to 21, July 8 to 12, July 15 to 19 and July 29 to Aug. 2. The cost per session is $230 for members or $280 for nonmembers.
■ Junior Naturalists for youths ages 9 to 11 are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 15 to 17 with an overnight trip July 18 and 19. A second session is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 22 to 24 with an overnight trip July 25 and 26. A third session is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 to 7 with an overnight trip Aug. 8 and 9. The cost per session is $250 for members and $350 for nonmembers.
■ Wilderness Pioneers I for youths ages 12 to 14 is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 25 and 26 and an overnight trip June 27 and 28. A second session is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23 and 24 and an overnight trip July 25 and 26. The cost per session is $285 for members or $335 for nonmembers.
■ Wilderness Pioneers II for youths ages 12 to 14 is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 6 with overnight trips from Aug. 7 to 9. The cost is $310 for members and $360 for nonmembers.
■ Day camps for children ages 5 to 8 are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 1 to 3 and July 5. The cost is $50 per day.

Old Town Hot Springs raising money for fund
During April, Old Town Hot Springs is raising money for its Wayne Kakela Scholarship Fund, which provides affordable or free memberships for needy families and swim lessons for needy youths in Routt County. The April fundraising goal is $2,000, which the hot springs hopes to raise through donations, proceeds from the sale of SkinDog sunscreen and events including the Satkiewicz Relays at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. As part of the event, teams of one to four swimmers will swim 200 yards each, tagging off to a teammate, for one hour. Nonprofit is collecting ambulatory equipment
Denver nonprofit Crutches 4 Africa is collecting ambulatory equipment — including crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs and leg braces — for victims of polio in Africa.
A Hayden collection will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 11 at Sportsmed Physical Therapy, 300 S. Shelton St.,
Steamboat collections will be from 3 to 6 p.m. April 12 at SportsMed, the Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs, Ace at the Curve and Central Park Liquor and from 3 to 5 p.m. April 13 on the lawn in front of Slopeside Grill.
