Steamboat briefs: National Influenza Week continues through Saturday

National Influenza Week is ongoing through Saturday. During flu season, you should wash your hands, use your sleeve when you sneeze or cough, disinfect objects and stay home when you're ill. The best way to prevent the flu is by being vaccinated. Drop-in flu clinics are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays through December at the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association office in Steamboat. Food for Fines program is ongoing through December
During December, children ages 17 and younger can "pay" overdue fines at Bud Werner Memorial Library by participating in the library's annual Food for Fines program. The library will waive $2 of overdue fines for every one can or box of food children bring to the library. All food will be donated to LIFT-UP of Routt County Food Bank. Guys Read book club open for registration at library
Guys Read, a book club for boys ages 8 and older and their dads or an older male figure, continues through the winter at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Guys Read meets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. one Thursday per month in the library's Teen Project Room. Fun activities and free pizza are provided. Register and pick up books at the children's desk or call 970-879-0240, ext. 313. Space is limited to 10 guy pairs per meeting. New license plates offered for WWII veterans Jan. 3
The Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles will have a new license plate for World War II veterans beginning Jan. 3, according to a news release. To be eligible, veterans must present a DD-214 or equivalent document that proves that he or she served in the military between Sept. 16, 1940, and July 25, 1947. One set of plates per veteran is exempt from the $25 fee. The plates can be ordered at the local Department of Motor Vehicle office.
Steamboat Dance Theatre seeks sponsors for show
Steamboat Dance Theatre is seeking sponsors at varying levels for the annual dance concert from March 15 to 17. The concert is the biggest fundraiser for Steamboat Dance Theatre. Art museum shop seeks local pieces for gift shop
The Steamboat Art Museum gift shop is seeking work by local artists and craftspeople. The shop sells artist work on a consignment basis. Proceeds help support the museum.
