Steamboat briefs: Mountain Tap brewery to host Token Tuesday benefit

Steamboat Springs' newest brewpub, Mountain Tap Brewery, debuts its Token Tuesday community benefit day Tuesday, July 12.
Each month, Mountain Tap Brewery selects four local nonprofit organizations to support. On Token Tuesday, each guest receives a wooden nickel token for every craft beer he or she purchases. Before leaving Mountain Tap Brewery, guests can select which of the four organizations they want to support by depositing their tokens in that organization's Token Tuesday box.
At the end of the month, Mountain Tap Brewery empties the boxes, adds up the tokens for each organization and presents each with $1 for every token they received.
"We developed this program as a token of our appreciation for all that the nonprofit organizations do in the Steamboat community," said owner and brewmaster Rich Tucciarone. "Steamboat Springs is chock full of amazing nonprofit organizations that go all-out to make our community the special place it is. Token Tuesdays provide an opportunity for our guests to purchase and enjoy a beer, then do good for the community — on us!"
Mountain Tap Brewery's inaugural Token Tuesday beneficiaries are Friends of the Yampa, Routt County Riders, Steamboat Dance Theatre and Yampa Valley Sustainability Council. These four organizations will be featured on Tuesdays in July and August.

Volunteers needed to help with trails maintenance
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is looking for volunteers to help maintain trails at State Forest State Park and earn one free night of camping in one of the most scenic parks in Colorado. Volunteers can choose between July 30 or Aug. 20, from 8:30 a.m to 4 p.m. each day.
As a reward for a fun day of making the park's trails safe and compatible with the natural surroundings, volunteers can camp for one night free of charge, either the night before or the evening of trail work days.
"It's important to maintain trails to keep them free of debris, mitigate erosion and repair the sections impacted from the elements and daily use," said Park Ranger Louis Moeller. "It's lots of fun and all for a good cause, so we encourage people to come out and join us."
Moeller reminds volunteers to bring water, snacks, a sack lunch, insect repellent and appropriate clothing, including gloves and sturdy shoes. Colorado Parks and Wildlife will provide tools and supervision.
"You will get your hands dirty, but nothing beats a little exercise while helping the environment, breathing fresh air and surrounded by beautiful scenery," he said.

Spanish training on food safety slated for July 19
A Spanish food safety training for food workers will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. or 2 to 4 p.m. July 19 at the Routt County Extension office in the Routt County Courthouse Annex. The class will cover the fundamentals of food safety, cross contamination, food borne illness prevention and proper cleaning and sanitation. The instructor will be Jill Paradis from Culinary Translations and the cost is $30 per person. To register, contact Karen Massey at CSU Extension at 907-879-0825.
