Steamboat briefs: Memorial service held for Steamboat’s John Peterson

Steamboat Springs resident John Peterson, 58, died Aug. 11 from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a press release from the Routt County Sheriff's Office.
After responding to a report of a possible suicide, deputies found Peterson in a truck outside his home at Storm Mountain Ranch, according to the release.
Peterson was a top salesman for Herbalife, an international company that sells nutrition and weight-management products. He is survived by his wife and three children. A memorial service was held Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church.
Steamboat Rug Hookers to hold retreat this week
The Steamboat Rug Hookers will be holding a two-day retreat from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Creek Ranch Headquarters on Routt County Roads 33 and 179. The public is invited to come view the rugs created by the group. For more information, call Linda Young at 970-871-1194.
Council meeting Tuesday will not be broadcast
During a project to replace the audiovisual equipment in Citizens Hall of Centennial Hall, the Tuesday Steamboat Springs City Council meeting will not be broadcast on TV6 or the city's website. Those who would like to listen to the meeting can do so by calling 970-871-7098. The meeting will be recorded to show at a later date. Interdenominational Bible study for women upcoming
Yampa Valley women are invited to join an interdenominational community Bible study from 8:45 to 11 a.m. beginning Aug. 29 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 755 Concordia Lane. Land stewardship course offered starting Sept. 9
The Community Agriculture Alliance and the CSU Routt County Extension are offering a course on land stewardship from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 9 through Oct. 14. Courses are a mix of classroom sessions, field discussions and walking tours. Topics include stewardship ranching, water, multiuse, grazing and habitat stewardship.
