Steamboat briefs: Kindergarten registration for 2012-13 starts Monday

Kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year is from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday at Soda Creek and Strawberry Park elementary schools. Bring your child's birth certificate or passport; immunization records; proof of residence in the form of a utility bill, property tax receipt or lease agreement; and a current photo of your child. A deposit of $200 is required for the full-day kindergarten program.
Yampa Valley Singers to perform April 13 and 14
The Yampa Valley Singers will perform "Amazing Grace — Music of our Heritage" under the direction of Anna Jones at 7 p.m. April 13 and 4 p.m. April 14 at the United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs. Forest Service is seeking public comment on project
The U.S. Forest Service is sponsoring an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hahn's Peak-Bears Ears District office, 925 Weiss Drive, to hear public comment about the proposed Armstrong Creek restoration project in California Park.
Anti-tobacco organization hosting events at schools
The Steamboat Springs N-CTRL Coalition is hosting events at all Steamboat Springs public schools where students will have the opportunity to sign a banner showing that their school says no to tobacco.
Representatives will be at each school during the lunch hour providing education and information to students.
As a part of the Kick Butts day event, a poster contest was held at each school and students were asked to draw "What I Can Do to Make The World Tobacco Free." Judges will select a winner from each school Tuesday at Centennial Hall before the Steamboat Springs City Council meeting. Judges include City Council members Scott Myller, Walter Magill and Kenny Reisman, Police Chief Joel Rae, Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association CEO Lisa Brown, Steamboat Springs High School Principal Kevin Taulman, Routt County Commissioner Diane Mitsch Bush, Steamboat Springs School District Superintendent Brad Meeks and Sheriff Garrett Wiggins. Winners will be announced Wednesday.

An adult activity and care program offered in Hayden
The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association offers adult activity and care program at The Haven Assisted Living Center, 300 S. Shelton Lane, Hayden. The program provides a place for older adults to enjoy a fun and relaxing day outside of the home. The program is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays in March, as well as Monday. The cost is $60 per day. Activities include music, presentations, exercise, art, social events and health and wellness services.
A program for those with memory care needs is from noon to 4 p.m. Friday and 30 and is $50 per day. For more information and to register, call Karen Burley at 970-875-1888.
Private emergency medical services company opening
A private emergency medical services business is opening its doors in Steamboat Springs. Beginning in the spring, Event Medical Solutions Unlimited will offer emergency services at events across Northwest Colorado, according to a news release. The company will offer on-site medical services, organize evacuations and transportation of patients and help event organizers with medical logistics.
The company was founded by Dr. Laura Sehnert and paramedics Tim Baldwin and Ebin Latrimurt.
"What we are doing is providing highly skilled professionals for events that have any potential for injury or illness," Baldwin was quoted as saying in the release.
The Steamboat business also has committed to using local medical professionals and buying local supplies and equipments whenever possible, according to the release.
"Our local merchants are great and have already provided us with logo/printing services, uniform items and legal consulting," Latrimurti was quoted as saying.
