Steamboat briefs: Java & Jazz fundraiser for Partners is on Sept. 6

Java & Jazz, an annual fundraiser for Partners in Routt County, is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Larson Barn, on Colorado Highway 131 at mile marker 68. Road and Bridge releases chipseal, overlay schedule

Routt County Road and Bridge has released a schedule for 2013 overlay and chipseal projects that will affect traffic on various local roads this fall. According to a press release from the county, this year's projects and estimated time frames are as follows:

Overlay project schedule:

■ Routt County Road 129 — intersection of C.R. 64 to top of Willow Creek pass, through Wednesday

■ C.R. 16 — intersection of C.R. 212 to end of hard surface, Thursday and Friday

■ C.R. 14 — intersection of C.R. 16 to Henderson Park, Sept. 3 to 6

Public Works Department to replace water main

Steamboat Springs' Public Works Department today will begin replacement of a water main along Pine Street between Fifth and Ninth streets. Work will begin at Pine and Fifth then will progress down Pine to Ninth. One-block closures of Pine will be in place during the construction, and detours will route motorists and bicyclists along Oak and Aspen streets. Completion is expected by Nov. 1. Community Cultivation program hosts open house

The Yampa Valley Autism Program's Community Cultivation program is hosting an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps headquarters. The free event includes refreshments from Ciao Gelato and is intended to thank donors and supporters for the program's new solar self-sustaining greenhouse.

The Community Cultivation program is a holistic horticultural program that addresses the vocational, social and life development needs of individuals with disabilities and at-risk populations. The goal of the program is to increase an individual's independence, work ready skills, self-esteem, social cognition and peer relationships. The clients plan, plant, tend to and harvest their produce and sell it at the Mainstreet Farmers Market, area restaurants and donate some to LIFT-UP of Routt County. With the addition of the greenhouse, the program can be expanded to nearly year-round.

Michael Olsen honored at Architects awards gala

Michael Olsen was honored Aug. 23 at the American Institute of Architects Colorado West chapter's annual awards gala in Snowmass for his service to the Routt County community as the chairman of the Routt County Historic Preservation board, according to a news release.

Annual exams free for underinsured, uninsured

Planned Parenthood can cover the cost of an annual exam for women who are uninsured or underinsured, according to a news release. Call 970-879-2212 for information or to make an appointment or stop by the health center on 11th Street between Lincoln Avenue and Oak Street.

Bust of Steamboat still in need of sponsors for event

The 12th annual Bust of Steamboat is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at Three Peaks Grill and is in need of sponsors. Several sponsorship levels are available and include tickets to the auction as well as your business featured on the event poster, in the evening's auction program and on related websites. Sponsors are matched with local artists who are preparing their bust entries to be auctioned with the money raised benefiting the fight against breast cancer.

The Bust of Steamboat is organized by and benefits the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project, a volunteer organization that keeps 100 percent of funds local to help pay for mammograms, wellness exams and treatment.
