Steamboat briefs: Howelsen Ice Arena to be closed Thursday morning

Howelsen Ice Arena will be closed Thursday morning for a scheduled refrigeration repair. Stick and Puck as well as public skate sessions will be canceled in the morning. The rink is expected to reopen in the afternoon for regularly scheduled practices. For more information, call Mike at 970-871-7039.
Alcohol Responsibility class in Steamboat on Thursday
Grand Futures Prevention Coalition is hosting a Steamboat Springs Alcohol Responsibility Training class from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. The class is an accepted certification for alcohol responsibility training for servers, distributors and sellers of alcoholic beverages in Steamboat Springs. The cost is $35, and registration is required by calling Kate at 970-879-6188.
Colorado Gives Day is on Dec. 10 to promote donating
Colorado Gives Day is Dec. 10. The fundraising event is designed to encourage people to donate to nonprofit organizations in their hometowns.
Routt County organizations participating in the event include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado, Family Development Center (Discovery Learning Center, Newborn and Child Care Networks), Integrated Community, Partners in Routt County, Routt County Habitat for Humanity, Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, Northwest Rocky Mountain CASA, Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, Selah, Yampa Valley Community Foundation, Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and Yampatika.
Donate to any of these organizations by going to http://www.coloradogives.org, click "Donate to your favorite nonprofit" and schedule the donation for Colorado Gives Day.
Ton of Turkey Thanksgiving food drive is on Saturday
The Steamboat Ski Town Lions Club is hosting its annual Ton of Turkey Thanksgiving food drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Safeway, 37500 E. U.S. Highway 40. The club hopes to collect 2,000 pounds of turkey, or about 150 birds, which will be donated to LIFT-UP of Routt County locations in Steamboat Springs, Oak Creek and Hayden. Safeway is supporting the effort by offering 12- to 14-pound turkeys for $6 to $8 with a purchase of $30 or more Saturday.
With the donation of a turkey, customers will receive a $5 coupon for a Lions Club Christmas tree, which will be available beginning Saturday at Christy Sports in Central Park Plaza and at the lot at 13th Street and Lincoln Avenue.
Impact 100 organization to host presentation party
Impact 100, a philanthropic organization that is a program of the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, hosts a presentation party at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at One Steamboat Place, 2250 Après Ski Way.
The group, which pools financial gifts and then doles them out to nonprofit organizations, has donated $78,000 back to the community. Last year, the group donated to Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide, Grand Futures Prevention Coalition, Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp and the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council.
