Applications for Leadership Steamboat are due Friday. The nine-month professional development program focuses on enhancing individual leadership skills, increasing understanding of how the community works and meeting professional leaders who guide the community and its businesses. Participants will work with national experts on leadership skills and local civic and business leaders who will share their insights on how things get done in the Yampa Valley.

Each year, the class identifies a community need and takes on a group project to solve that need through collaboration and project management. Recent group projects include the community garden on Oak Street, recycling containers along Lincoln Avenue, benches in the downtown area and the Bike Guide.

After an initial 1 1/2-day orientation Sept. 26 and 27, the group meets one Friday per month through early June. Find more information about the program, including the cost and an application, at or call Ashley Reed at 970-875-7000.
