Steamboat Briefs: Grocery store workers’ contract put on hold
November 19, 2009
Safeway and City Market workers did not vote immediately on a contract proposed by management of the grocery stores presented to the workers earlier in the week.
Initial reports indicated that workers across the state would vote on the proposal Wednesday.
The contract, the "last, best and final offer," from King Soopers and Safeway grocery stores, was presented to the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union members Monday night. King Soopers runs City Market.
On Wednesday, union spokeswoman Laura Chapin said union members are taking extra time to review the hundreds of pages in the proposal.
"At this point, everything is on hold pending a review of the contract proposed by the company," Chapin said.
She said there is no timeline for voting on the proposal.
