Steamboat briefs: Green Courte Partners opens office in Steamboat

Green Courte Partners, the real estate firm that developed Howelsen Place and Alpen Glow, has opened an office in downtown Steamboat Springs.

The company’s main office remains in Lake Forest, Ill., but a team now will be working remotely from 751 Yampa St. along the river.

Green Courte’s founder and chairman, Randy Rowe, recently moved to the area, according to Mark Scully, managing director for the firm. Rowe has owned property in Routt County for a number of years.



Green Courte is a private equity real estate investment firm with more than a billion dollars of real estate assets in its portfolio.

Steamboat Hold ’em Poker Championship registration deadline Wednesday



The inaugural Steamboat Hold ’em Poker Championship is at 7 p.m. Saturday at Catamount Ranch & Club.

The entry fee is $125 and benefits flood relief efforts. The first-place prize in entry into the World Series of Poker at The Lodge Casino in Blackhawk.

Real Food talk slated for noon Wednesday at hospital

A Real Food talk titled “Plant Based Fats: Don’t be Fat Phobic” is at noon Wednesday at Yampa Valley Medical Center. Dr. Charlie Petersen and Cara Marrs, a registered dietitian and certified physical trainer, will talk about how to add healthy, plant-based fats to your diet. Free ski injury prevention screenings set for Thursday

Free ski injury prevention and performance screenings are available from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Johnson and Johnson Physical Therapy, 1856 Lincoln Ave. Individualized plans will be given to all participants, and no appointment is necessary. For more information, call 970-879-4558.

Motherhood enlightenment, support class is Saturday

Beth Wendler leads a conversation about support, enlightenment and fun in the journey of motherhood. According to a news release, the class is created for moms to assist in reconnecting with their inner wisdom, to facilitate remembering who they are amid the laundry and carpooling and to rekindle the fun and soulfulness of being a mother. Deadline for CMC creative writing contest is Nov. 29

As part of this year’s Common Reader program, Colorado Mountain College is sponsoring a creative writing contest.

The theme of the contest is “Beyond Cultural Identity: Overcoming Obstacles and Making Connections.” All entries must be inspired by this year’s Common Reader book, “I’m Down” by Mishna Wolff, who will discuss her book at 7 p.m. Thursday at Steamboat’s Alpine Campus.

Six winners will be selected, three in the creative writing category and three in the art category. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three in each category. The winning entries will be published on the Common Reader website and also will be submitted for possible inclusion in the 2014 issue of “Rocky Mountain Reflections,” CMC’s arts and literary journal.
