Steamboat briefs: Free tours for seniors to see Christmas decorations

The city of Steamboat Springs is offering free bus ride tours for seniors to look at Christmas decorations Wednesday. The bus will pick up riders at 6 p.m. at the Selby Apartments, 6:15 p.m. at the Mountain View Apartments and 6:25 p.m. at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Register by calling the Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department at 970-879-4300.

Spring Creek Trail remains closed for winter habitat

A large portion of the Spring Creek Trail has been closed to public access as part of the annual seasonal wildlife closure. The seasonal closure is done in cooperation with the Colorado Division of Wildlife to provide winter habitat for the local elk herd. The trail will remain closed until April 15. The closure begins about 1 1/2 miles up the trail from Amethyst Drive, and access is blocked by a gate. Tread of Pioneers Museum closed on Christmas Day

The Tread of Pioneers Museum will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The museum will reopen on Dec. 26 and commence normal business hours, which are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.



Local groups reach out to returning service members

The Routt County Veterans Affairs, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4264 and American Legion Post 44 in Steamboat would like to meet and greet local sons and daughters returning from military service. The VFW is looking for female war veterans. The American Legion also is looking for new members. Horizons provides free screenings for children

Horizons Specialized Services provides free screenings for children. If you’re a parent and are concerned about your child’s development, call Kathy Northcutt at 970-871-8558. The screenings can answer questions such as “Should he be walking by now?” “How many words should she be saying?” and “Is her hearing and vision what it should be?”
