Steamboat briefs: Forms to enter 99th Winter Carnival parade are available

Steamboat Springs — Entry forms for the 99th Winter Carnival Diamond Hitch Parade on Feb. 12 are available at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club office or at http://www.sswsc.org. The theme for the Winter Carnival is A Yampa Valley Tradition. The entry deadline is Feb. 3. Call the Winter Sports Club at 970-879-0695, ext. 100, for more information.
After School Youth Chorus meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday
The After School Youth Chorus, under the direction of Keri Rusthoi, is from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs sanctuary. The chorus trains young singers ages 7 to 12 in the art and joy of classical choral singing and performance etiquette. No experience is required. Northwest Colorado VNA offering flu vaccinations
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone ages 6 months and older be vaccinated against the flu. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is reporting confirmed cases of influenza resulting in hospitalizations. It's not too late to get vaccinated. Drop-in flu clinics are held from 9 to 4:30 Thursdays through January at the Steamboat Springs Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association office. Flu shots always are available by appointment. Mainstreet Steamboat is seeking letters of support
Mainstreet Steamboat Springs has been named a semifinalist for a Great American Main Street Award by the National Main Street Center. Of the 10 semifinalists, five will be selected as winners. Semifinalists have three additional submission requirements — maps, a video with interviews and 30 letters of support from the community. Mainstreet Steamboat is asking the public to supply the 30 letters of support if you see the value of the Mainstreet program in regards to the improvements and vibrancy in downtown Steamboat. Aging Well winter class calendars are available
Aging Well, a program of the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, has winter class calendars available. Fitness classes for older adults are offered in Steamboat, Hayden, Oak Creek and Yampa. The winter schedule includes Beginner Tai Chi for Health, Arthritis Foundation Exercise and Healthier Living, a chronic disease self-management workshop. There is a $3 requested donation per class unless otherwise noted. VNA offering meningitis vaccinations for students
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other leading medical groups recommend the meningococcal vaccine for youths ages 11 to 18, as well as those ages 19 to 21 who attend college. College students younger than 22 who received a meningococcal vaccine before age 16 should receive a booster.
