Steamboat briefs: East Routt Library District closes on outstanding bonds
July 29, 2013
The East Routt Library District closed on the refinancing of outstanding general obligation bonds last month, according to a press release issued by the District. The original $11.4 million in bond issue proceeds, approved by voters in November 2005, were used to construct the addition and complete the remodel of the Bud Werner Memorial Library in 2009.
The bond refinancing will allow the District's taxpayers, who reside in the Steamboat Springs School District, to generate savings of more than $35,000 per year from 2013 to 2025 without extending the life of the original bond issue. The Series 2013 tax-exempt refunding bonds have an average interest rate of 1.91 percent and will be replacing the 2006 bonds that had an average interest rate of 4.56 percent.
According to the press release, the low borrowing cost is attributed in part to the District's high investment grade rating of AA by Standard & Poor's.

Fire Management reminds about burning guidelines
The Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit would like to remind readers about guidelines for agriculture and debris burning:
■ Contact the Routt County Sheriff's Office in advance at 970-879-1090.
■ Don't burn on windy days and know the forecast weather conditions for your burn day (available at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/gjt).
■ Notify your neighbors so they don't call in a fire report.
■ Have a shovel and water nearby to extinguish the fire.
■ Dig a fire line where you want the fire to stop.
■ Never leave a fire unattended.
If an agricultural or debris fire damages private, state or federally managed lands, you could receive a fine or be held responsible for the costs.
