Steamboat briefs: Chamber seeks volunteers for Steamboat Marathon

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is in need of volunteers for the following Steamboat Marathon activities:
■ Participant bag stuffing from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chamber. Pizza will be provided.
■ Registration and packet pickup from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill Lodge.
■ Finish-line support, announcer assistant, bag tent from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday on the Routt County Courthouse lawn.

Dance, fitness studios hold fundraiser for Scott Blair

Steamboat Springs area dance and fitness studios are coming together to raise money for Steamboat resident Scott Blair, who recently was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Dubbed Sweat for Scott, the fundraiser's main event is a fitness and dance party from 4 to 7 p.m. June 7 at 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Each of the following classes are offered for a $10 donation: CrossFit at 4 p.m., SCOT (sweat, conquer, overcome and triumph) at 4:45 p.m., core and yoga at 5:30 p.m., local males dance-off at 6 p.m. and Zumba and cardio dance at 6:15 p.m.
In addition to the fitness and dance party, the following classes and activities are offered across Steamboat with donations benefiting the Blair family:
■ June 7
11 a.m. PurePower at Steamboat Pilates, Yoga and Fitness. $10.
Noon Pilates at Steamboat Pilates. $10.
1 p.m. Core spine at Steamboat Pilates. $10.
2 p.m. Core run at Steamboat Pilates. $10.
2 to 7 p.m. Beauty treats at Comb Goddess. $20.
3 p.m. Reformer at Steamboat Pilates. $10.
4 to 7 p.m. Painting messages of hope at Splatz Canvas and Wine. $20.
■ June 8
7:30 a.m. True Manic blowout at Manic Training. $10.
4:20 p.m. Yin-yang yoga at Yoga Center of Steamboat. $10.
■ June 9
10 a.m. CrossFit at CrossFit Steamboat. $10.
Also available is the Sweat for Scott fitness passport, which costs $100 and entitles the owner to take one class at each of the following facilities: Steamboat Pilates, Elevation Dance Studio, Manic Training, CrossFit, Old Town Hot Springs, Yoga Center of Steamboat and Bella Barre.

Durango horticultural agent to visit Routt County
The CSU Extension will host Durango horticultural agent Darrin Parmenter from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at The Ranch, 1800 Ranch Road, for an interactive Web class that will be tailored for Routt County and high-altitude gardening. Topics that will be addressed include design and planning; soils, amendments and composting; planting, harvest and storage; and season extending. The cost is $10.
