First Impressions will host its annual candidates forum from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. today in the County Commissioners Hearing Room on the third floor of the Historic Routt County Courthouse, 522 Lincoln Ave. The event offers an opportunity for voters to learn where Steamboat Springs City Council and Steamboat Springs School Board candidates and incumbents stand on issues facing families and young children age birth to 5. The forum will also include information about Referendum 5A — the Housing Opportunities Make Economic Sense ballot initiative.

Forum to focus on Steamboat school ballot issues Oct. 12

A public forum on upcoming school-related ballot questions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Steamboat Springs High School commons area. There will be a presentation about the school bond and mill levy by Superintendent Brad Meeks and Director of Finance Mark Rydberg, followed by questions from the audience.  School board candidates will also answer questions from the moderator, then take questions from the audience.

The forum is hosted by Steamboat Springs High School Parent Information Committee, Steamboat Springs Middle School Parent Information Committee and CC4E, or the Community Committee for Education.

Steamboat Springs attorney earns Lawyer of the Year honor

Steamboat Springs attorney James Heckbert has been selected Lawyer of the Year for Western Colorado by Best Lawyers in the area of plaintiff’s personal injury.

Best Lawyers is the oldest and most respected peer review publication in the legal profession. The lists of outstanding attorneys are compiled by conducting exhaustive peer review surveys in which tens of thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers.

If the votes for an attorney are positive enough for recognition in Best Lawyers, that attorney must maintain those votes in subsequent polls to remain in each edition.

Lawyers are not permitted to pay any fee to participate in or be recognized by Best Lawyers.
