Ride 4 Yellow hands out $100K in local support

The Ride 4 Yellow Granting Committee has awarded $100,000 to local cancer support services and initiatives as a result of the inaugural Ride 4 Yellow event last summer, according to a news release. The event was created to benefit local nonprofit organizations and the Livestrong Foundation founded by Lance Armstrong. The event raised $266,000 in net proceeds, split among the Livestrong Foundation and the Ride 4 Yellow granting funds at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.

The following three organizations will receive funding in 2011:

■ Andy Caress Melanoma Foundation: $9,000 for melanoma awareness programs and to assist with initial costs in becoming a more sustainable organization.

■ Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurses Association: $20,000 for the Hospice and Palliative Care program.

■ Yampa Valley Medical Center: $71,000 to assist in developing the infrastructure needed to provide cancer services and to provide direct cancer services for local individuals.
