Steamboat briefs: Book Feast, Beast Walk is Saturday at the library

Steamboat Springs — Get ready to walk your beast for Book Feast on Saturday. The fun starts at 10 a.m. at Bud Werner Memorial Library with the Beast Walk down the Yampa River Core Trail to the Steamboat Springs Community Center and back. The cost is $5 per beast and includes dogs, cats, lizards, birds, your child, your husband, etc. (live or stuffed). Each beast must be leashed. There will be a canine agility course, baked goods and a Doggy Beauty Pageant at 11 a.m. on the library lawn. All proceeds will go toward Book Feast, a children's author and illustrator event, to be held Sept. 8. Visit http://www.steamboatlibrary.org/events/book-feast-fundraiser for more information.
Yampa Valley Sustainability Council needs volunteers

Planned Parenthood center receives 4 Yellow funding
The Steamboat Springs Planned Parenthood Health Center recently received funding from the 4 Yellow Foundation to cover the cost of an annual wellness exam for women who qualify, according to a news release. An annual exam is recommended yearly to screen for breast and cervical cancers as well as other health problems. To qualify, a woman must meet certain income requirements and be uninsured or have insurance that does not cover preventative care. If you think you may be eligible to receive this funding, call 970-879-2212 or stop by the Health Center on 11th Street between Lincoln Avenue and Oak Street to make an appointment.
Whiteman grad Shelby Dyer named to dean's list at CU
Shelby Dyer, a 2011 graduate of The Lowell Whiteman School, was named to the dean's list for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder for spring semester. Dyer is a freshman. The dean's list requires that a student hold a 3.75 or better GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 graded credit hours of coursework for the given semester.
