Steamboat briefs: Applications accepted for Routt County Fair royalty

Applications are available for girls interested in running for Routt County Fair royalty. The competition is open to county girls ages 8 to 18 and includes an application, essay, speech and interview, and an undercover judge's score. Applications are due today and tryouts are July 28.

Weigh and Win available Monday through July 26

Literary Sojourn tickets go on sale starting Monday
Literary Sojourn will be held Oct. 5 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. Steamboat's 21st annual festival of readers and authors is presented by the Bud Werner Memorial Library and features Augusten Burroughs, Emma Donoghue, Jennifer Haigh, Ron Rash, Jess Walter and master of ceremonies Andre Dubus III. Yampa River Botanic Park hosting speakers Saturday
The Yampa River Botanic Park will be hosting speakers Marcela Ferreyra and Marcela Sanchez at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Ferreyra and Sanchez will give the free talk about flora in Patagonia, which has a similar climate to Northwest Colorado.
Williams to be secretary for Sigma Alpha Iota
Kirsten Williams, of Phippsburg, has been selected to serve as a corresponding secretary for Sigma Alpha Iota at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, according to a news release.
Williams, a rising junior majoring in music performance, is a 2011 graduate of Christian Heritage School and the daughter of Michael and Sally Williams.
Sigma Alpha Iota is an internationally incorporated professional fraternity for women in the field of music.
Tour de Steamboat starts Saturday with dinner Friday
The Tour de Steamboat begins at 7 p.m. Saturday in Little Toots Park. The 10th annual event features 26-, 40- and 110-mile rides and a fundraising dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at The Steamboat Grand. The cost to enter the race ranges from $50 to $95, and the cost for the dinner is $30. The 12th annual Bust of Steamboat needs sponsors
The 12 annual Bust of Steamboat is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at Three Peaks Grill and is in need of sponsors. Several sponsorship levels are available and include tickets to the auction as well as your business featured on the event poster, in the evening's auction program and on related websites. Sponsors are matched with local artists who are preparing their bust entries to be auctioned with the money raised benefiting the fight against breast cancer.
The Bust of Steamboat is organized by and benefits the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project, a volunteer organization that keeps 100 percent of funds local to help pay for mammograms, wellness exams and treatment. For more information, call 970-846-4554.
