Steamboat briefs: Alternative fuel expo runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday

Bud Werner Memorial Library, Yampatika and Northern Colorado Clean Cities present a free alternative fuels and technologies auto expo from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday in the parking lot at the Depot Art Center. A Chevy Volt electric car, a hydrogen fuel Hummer, a compressed natural gas truck, a propane-fired taxi, a hybrid bus and a biodiesel Volkswagen Beetle will be on display with experts to answer questions. A free screening of the documentary "Revenge of the Electric Car" follows the expo at 6:30 p.m. at Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. The film takes a look at Nissan, GM and the Silicon Valley startup Tesla Motors to chronicle the story of the global resurgence of electric cars. The film will be followed by a Q-and-A session with representatives of the Chevy Volt. More information is at

Steamboat's Art Studio Co. wins for Best New Design

Steamboat Springs' Art Studio Co. won the Best New Design award in January at the Surf Expo in Orlando, Fla., for its adjustable bag.

"Our focus is on the highest of quality, earth-friendly materials and workmanship," designer Marissa Mack said, according to "We were thrilled to get the best new product award for our new adjustable bag."

Each design was judged on artistic design, cut and style, according to the site.

First Steps seminar held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at CMC

A First Steps seminar for those who are interested in starting a small business is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Bogue Hall, Room 300, at Colorado Mountain College. The free seminar will help attendees answer the following questions:

How much money will I need to start a business and how do I build a monthly expense budget? What is the forecast for profit/loss my first two years?
