Steamboat briefs: Alpine Bank to host Shred-A-Thon on Tuesday

Alpine Bank once again will host its Shred-A-Thon from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday. There will be free on-site document shredding at the bank’s Steamboat Springs location, 1901 Pine Grove Road.

Shred any unwanted documents with personal information, including:

■ Tax documents (seven years or older);



■ Old bank statements;

■ Old medical records;



■ Canceled or blank checks;

■ Credit card statements/solicitations; and

■ Personal bills.

There is a limit of four boxes per person.

The bank also is suggesting a donation of a can of food per box of shred as a donation that will go to LIFT-UP of Routt County.

Steamboat school board to adopt 2015-16 calendar

The Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education will adopt a school year calendar for the 2015-16 school year. Residents can take a few moments to review the four calendar options available on the district website at http://www.sssd.k12.co.us.

The board asks that people complete the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2015-16SchoolYearCalendars, and they will have the opportunity to provide input for future school year calendars.

The School Board has 412 responses already but is looking for more input. The survey will be posted through Monday.

Safety seminar Wednesday to cover worker’s comp

A free Pinnacol Safety Seminar, “Exposing Workers’ Compensation Fraud,” will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rex’s American Grill & Bar.

The seminar topics will include:

■ Case studies about a failed malingering case, a successful malingering case and a prosecuted workers’ compensation certificate forgery.

■ Legal theories of theft, criminal intent and false statements.

A two-day OSHA 10-hour construction industry focused training also will be offered. The course will help employers identify construction-related workplace hazards. Participants will learn how to understand and apply OSHA Standard 1926, and how to identify and minimize construction-related workplace hazards.  Participants also will receive their OSHA 10-hour card after attending the class. 

The course will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 21 and 8 a.m. to noon May 22 at Rex’s American Grill & Bar. The cost is $30 with breakfast included and a break for lunch. To register, contact the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association at 970-879-7000 or RSVP@steamboatchamber.com.
