Steamboat briefs: 2012 graduate Blake Kelly completes 1st semester

Blake Thomas Kelly, a 2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, has completed his first semester at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. He also has passed his private pilot's check ride and rating and is working on his instrument and commercial pilot's ratings. Kelly is majoring in aviation operations and is flying out of Salt Lake City International Airport.
Parks and Wildlife now taking grant applications
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife is accepting applications from individuals, organizations and local governments to distribute as much as $1.7 million in matching grants for projects in Colorado in 2013 that benefit fishing or boating, according to a news release.

Preschool screenings held March 18, 19 in Steamboat
Steamboat Springs preschool developmental screenings will be held March 18 and 19 at the George P. Sauer Human Services Building, 325 Seventh St. The screening will be for vision, hearing, fine and gross motor, thinking skills, speech and language and social skills. The service is available for children ages 2 years and 6 months (by April 1) to 5 years old. There will be no charge, and appointments can be made starting today by calling 970-879-0391.

Groups to host Winter Soiree polo-themed event
The Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, the Steamboat Springs Arts Council and the Emerald City Opera are hosting the Winter Soiree, a polo-themed dinner, at 6 p.m. March 16 at the Larson Barn.
