Steamboat briefs: 12th Street realignment in Steamboat begins Monday

The realignment of 12th Street in Steamboat Springs will begin Monday. During construction, access to 12th Street is restricted to everyone but area residents. Work is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 23.

Contractors working for Colorado Mountain College are realigning the street to meet the city's requirement to build a secondary access road to campus as part of construction of a 60,000-square-foot administration and classroom building scheduled to be completed by July 24.

30th annual Fishing Derby is Saturday at Walton Pond

The 30th annual Fishing Derby and Pancake Breakfast is at 8 a.m. Saturday at Walton Pond. The free event is hosted by the Optimist Club of Steamboat Springs. The breakfast is from 8 to 10:15 a.m. and fishing starts at 9 a.m. with judging at 10:30 a.m. No fishing license is required, and bait and some poles will be provided. Derby participants will receive a free T-shirt, and there will be prizes for best Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher costumes, biggest fish, first fish and most fish. VNA office recognizes Men's Health Week starting Monday

As part of Men's Health Week from Monday to Sunday, the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is reminding men that the HPV vaccine isn't just for women. The vaccine protects against genital and neck cancers and genital warts. The cost is $14 for men ages 19 to 26. Summer Youth Chorus begins June 18 at church

The Summer Youth Chorus, under the direction of Keri Rusthoi, begins from 4 to 5 p.m. June 18 at the United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs. The chorus trains children ages 7 to 12 in classical choral singing and performance etiquette. No experience required. Call Laurin Cooke at 970-879-8809 to register for the five-week session. The cost is $55 and includes a final concert.
