Steamboat boys lacrosse to open playoffs at home

— The Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse team will host No. 17 seed Fairview in the first round of the state high school playoffs this weekend.

The game is tentatively set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Gardner Field. Steamboat finished the season with a 9-1 record and was a perfect 6-0 in league play. The Sailors are the No. 16 seed.

Steamboat coach Bob Hiester said once the first round is over, the brackets will be reshuffled. The top eight teams in the state received a first-round bye. After the first round is played, the lowest remaining seed will be matched up against the top-seeded team. The second-lowest seed will go up against the No. 2 seed, and so on.

Arapahoe is the No. 1 seed in the state, followed by Cherry Creek at No. 2, Colorado Academy at No.3, Chatfield at No. 4, Regis at No. 5, Kent Denver at No. 6, Mullen at No. 7 and Fort Collins at No. 8. Teams seeded nine through 24 will play in the first round this week to determine the final seeding order for the next round.
