Steamboat boys lacrosse snags 10-4 win at Green Mountain
March 14, 2014
Steamboat Springs — Green Mountain proved to be a bigger challenge than Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse's first opponent, but the Sailors improved to 2-0 on Friday night with a 10-4 road win.
Led by junior Mitch McCannon's team-high three goals, the Sailors weathered a test in Lakewood and now look forward to a week off before more road tests in Grand Junction.
"The players are playing with confidence across the board," first-year Steamboat coach Jay Lattimore said. "We definitely have room for improvement. A lot of players are still trying to prove themselves. There's a lot of competition."
Also getting in the scoring mix were Ben Wharton and Andrew Firestone with two goals apiece and Peter White and Erik Sobeck, who each pitched in a goal and an assist. Lattimore also praised senior goalie Kaleb VanArsdale's work in front of the net for the Sailors.
"It was a good challenge, definitely," Lattimore said about Green Mountain. "It was a step up from last week. But we still have some improving to do."
Steamboat will take the field again Friday against Durango and take on Telluride on March 22. Both games are in Grand Junction.
