Steamboat baseball loses 2 to Denver East

Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School baseball team opened the season with a pair of losses Saturday to Denver East.
Steamboat lost the first game, 6-0, and the second one, 13-3.
In the first game, Denver East used a five-run third inning to break the game open.
Alan Capistron started, throwing five innings and giving up six runs, all but one of them earned. The senior struck out seven and walked three.
Ryan Hall had a pair of hits, and Capistron added one.
In the second game, Steamboat fell behind 5-2 after two innings, before errors broke the game open.
Tyler Brown took the loss, pitching five innings and giving up nine earned runs. Carson Becker threw an inning, giving up four runs, one of which was earned.
Capistron had a home run and RBI. Cutter Pasternak added a hit and RBI.
Steamboat continues play Friday and Saturday at a tournament in Paonia.
