Steamboat American Legion baseball team 6th in Wyoming tourney

Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat American Legion team went 2-3 during the weekend, finishing sixth in the Green River, Wyo., tournament.
The team opened with a 4-3 win against Evanston, Wyo., thanks to a complete game, four-hitter from Matt Regan.
Jeff Thompson, Billy Clark, Michael Yost and Koby Bishop all had two hits in the win.
In the second game, Steamboat lost, 7-3, to Rangely. After taking an early 3-0 lead, Rangely pitcher Cody Denny stifled the Steamboat bats.
Against Douglas, Wyo., Steamboat got a sterling effort on the mound from Ryan Jeep and Bishop to get a 3-2 win.
Jeep was perfect for four innings, and Bishop closed the game.
Steamboat then had a chance to advance to the finals with a win against Rock Springs, Wyo.
After taking an early 4-2 lead, Steamboat struggled.
Rock Springs scored two in the third and five more in the fifth to win, 10-5.
In the consolation game against Lovell, Wyo., Steamboat fell, 6-5.
Connor Jennings threw five innings and was staked to a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. Lovell picked up three runs to go ahead 4-2. Steamboat regained the lead in the top of the seventh thanks to a two-run double by Jennings. But Lovell scored two in the bottom half to get the win.
Steamboat next plays a doubleheader Saturday at Emerald Field against Palisade. The first game begins at 11 a.m.
