SSWSC Century Mark: Lindsay Lockhart Dillenbeck, formerly Lindsay Elizabeth Lockhart
Athletes and alumni look back on 100 years of memories
January 23, 2014
Q. When were you in the club and what discipline?
A. Alpine, from around 1984 to the 1999-2000 season.
Q. Who were your friends in the club?
A. Emmy Hoyt (Barr), Jessica Rychel (Bratley) and Ali Smith (Williams), just to name a few.
Q. What is your favorite club memory?
A. There are so many: preseason training in Summit County; summer training on the glaciers in Whistler and Oregon; SG training on Vagabond; and lifting weights "muscle beach" style outside the back of the club in the summer.
Q. What are you doing now?
A. My husband and I own F.M. Light & Sons. It is great to be back in town and to keep the tradition going. I love this place!
Q. What impact did the club have on you?
A. It taught me perseverance and discipline — both physical and mental. Because of ski racing, I applied to Dartmouth. Before meeting the coach at a SSWSC summer camp, I had never heard of the place. That turned out to be an excellent experience. I can also say in all seriousness that my experience at the club helped me land a few different jobs over the years. Skiing is novel and so romanticized in other parts of the country that being "a skier" somehow impressed people. I had some tough coaches, and the lessons they taught me will stick with me forever. Also, it was the most fun I think I have ever had.
