Sprint down Lincoln Monday

From a 26.2-mile marathon to a 400-yard dash, the Steamboat Springs Running Series continues with Monday’s Steamboat Sprint.

Held in conjunction with the annual Fourth of July parade, the Steamboat Sprint is just what the name suggests — a sprint down Lincoln Avenue.

“I remember having a friend who was a fast sprinter, and I watched her run it,” race director Kit Rice said. “She got done and said, ‘That’s longer than you think.'”

The Steamboat Sprint is the sixth race in the Steamboat Springs Running Series, and points will be awarded, but it easily is the shortest event in the series.

The cost to enter is $4, and registration is available from 9 to 9:15 a.m. Monday at the race table at Lincoln Avenue and Ninth Street. The sprint starts at 9:30 a.m.

“It’s a great way to kick off the parade’s festivities,” Rice said.

Rice encourages runners to wear Fourth of July attire.

“We would encourage it,” she said. “I’ve never seen it, but I’d love to.”

More than $400 worth of prizes from local businesses will be handed out after the race.
