Mitchell VeDepo advances on American Ninja Warrior
Hayden High School grad Mitchell VeDepo was nervous before he took on the city finals course on the NBC game show American Ninja Warrior. He didn't have any reason to be, however. He was heavily featured on the broadcast as he flew through the course and on to the next round of the competition.
Awards include teams and coach of the year for 2015-16
Soroco High School took home both male and female athlete of the year honors for Routt County.
Hayden High School and the Hayden Booster Club announced their May athletes of the month.
Maybe Soroco High School junior Cassie Constine found out technique is overrated. After all, she broke her own school record Saturday in the Class 2A girls triple jump at the state meet in Lakewood and did it in unorthodox fashion.
Soroco senior Kali Constine had a rough day Thursday, the first of the state meet. She failed to record a mark in the 2A girls high jump, but found a way to redeem herself Friday.
The state track and field meet gets underway Thursday at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.
For most of the spring track and field season, Soroco High School sophomore Mattie Rossi has owned Class 2A’s top spot in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles. Heading into this weeks’ state meet in Lakewood, however, she’ll have at least one person to look up to.
The Hayden High School track and field team also competed at the Joe Shields Invitational Thursday, the boys and girls both taking fourth, overall.
Soroco High School track and field coach David Bruner really likes where his team sits. This week, the Rams will travel to West Grand for their last-chance meet, although most of their athletes don't have anything to worry about in regards to state qualification.
Regional play gets underway this week for girls tennis, girls golf and track. Steamboat girls soccer and both lacrosse teams wrap up their regular seasons with home games.
For the first time in a handful of weeks, the Soroco High School track and field team did not break any school records when it competed Friday at the Clint Wells Invitational in Craig. In fact, nothing really stood out to Soroco coach David Bruner as being special. Even freshman Chloe Veilleux’s dominance in the mile and two-mile races was nothing surprising.
It didn’t happen Friday at the Coal Ridge Invitational, but the belief is Hayden High School sophomore Alan Aguirre will reach his goal before the track season ends.
Hayden track and field led by strong contingent of underclassmen
There is still a hint of fear for the Tigers, who continue their season at Coal Ridge on Friday, less than a month before the state track meet gets underway in Lakewood. But, as the weeks go by, this fear is being replaced by excitement and determination.
An April snowstorm has caused the cancellation or postponement of numerous prep games across the state, including Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse, girls soccer and girls tennis.
Gypsum was the place to be Saturday, as all three Routt County High School track and field teams competed in the Eagle Valley Invitational, hosted by Eagle Valley High School.
