South Routt School Board to discuss budget tonight

Pilot & Today Staff

— The South Routt School Board will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss reductions to the 2010-11 budget. The district anticipates having to cut $472,000 next school year based on a reduction in funding from the state and increased costs for employee health insurance and retirement benefits.

Board members also are scheduled to discuss the 2010-11 school year calendar. Superintendent Scott Mader has indicated the possibility of trimming days next year instead of instituting furlough days for staff. There also has been some discussion among School Board members about switching to a four-day week.

Business Manager Dina Murray said the School Board also may get an update about the district's decision to distribute a survey to engage residents in budget decisions. Murray said School Board President Tim Corrigan is drafting a letter to be sent to district residents about how to access the survey, which Murray said likely would be available online or at the district office.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the district administrative offices, 305 S. Grant St. in Oak Creek.
