Soroco volleyball wins in 3 games
Rams rebound against DeBeque Dragons

Oak Creek — A day after a maddening loss in which the Soroco volleyball team seemed to be able to do little right, the team excised its frustrations.
The Rams crushed visiting DeBeque on Friday night, evening their record at 3-3 with a three-game victory. Soroco won, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.
“I was pretty frustrated, but we had to shake it off because we had another game,” junior Caitlyn Berry. “We didn’t get mad at each other, and we passed much better. Our hitting wasn’t as great, but we pulled it together.”
Soroco picked the right time to get back on a winning track. After splitting back-to-back matches Thursday and Friday, the team travels Monday to play West Grand.
If it packs along the kind of game it had Friday, that could be a successful trip.
In a three-game Thursday loss to North Park, Soroco struggled to handle serves and turn them into killable sets.
Berry repeatedly was called for lifting the ball from her setter’s position. An hour of practice before Friday’s game helped smooth things over, coach Kim Reeves said.
When game time came, Berry was on top of it, laying the groundwork for the three easy wins.
“Caitlyn had a rough night (Thursday). Before the game, she was working on things, and she came out and did everything we’d talked about,” Reeves said. “She played an outstanding game.”
It wasn’t only Berry that played better one day later.
“Our serve receive was way, way better,” Reeves said. “Our offense was quicker, and we moved the ball around a lot better on offense. We had more blocks and better defense.
“That’s what we need to do when we go to West Grand. That won’t be an easy match.”
