Soroco volleyball finishes 3rd at Leadville tournament
September 5, 2010
Steamboat Springs — The Soroco High School volleyball team finished third Saturday in a tournament in Leadville.
Soroco lost, 2-1, to James Irwin, before beating Palmer and Lake County, 2-0.
The tournament was best of three games instead of the usual best of five.
"Honestly, I think that losing that first match was a good learning experience for them," Rams coach Kim Reeves said. "We had a good talk afterward."
After the initial loss to James Irwin, Reeves said Soroco (2-1) refocused its efforts and played much better in the second two matches.
Behind the leadership of setter Caitlyn Berry, Soroco breezed through the second two matches.
"One of the things that's going to make us so good this year is we don't have one specific girl we have to lean on," Reeves said.
"Of course, we could have played better and taken a higher rank at the end, but this was more of a learning experience to get those games under our belt."
Soroco next plays at 6:30 p.m. Friday at West Grand.
