Soroco, Hayden wrestlers show well at Leadville tournament
January 21, 2013
The Hayden High School wrestling team had a number of high finishes Saturday at a Leadville tournament.
Journey Vreeman helped set the tone, placing second at 152 pounds. Tanner Guire, at 113, also was second, as was Taylor Lewis, at 160 pounds.
Kent Miller, meanwhile, was third at 132 pounds and Trent Gable was fourth at 120.
"It went really well," said assistant coach Nick Planansky. "The kids wrestled really well."
Planansky also pointed to Hunter Rummel, who wrestled at 195 pounds, as having had a good day.
The team also won five of seven contested matches in a Friday night dual against Grand Valley.
Rams place 4 at tournament
The Soroco High School wrestling team enjoyed one of its best days of the season Saturday as four Rams charged through a tournament at Leadville and managed to place.
Colton Martindale, wrestling at 120 pounds, led the way by finishing third.
"He hit a really tough kid in the semifinals, but what I was most pleased with, he pinned a kid who had beat him earlier in the year," coach Jay Whaley said.
Cody Constine at 195 pounds, Andrew Schupner at 113 and Dillon Koler at 138 all placed fourth.
"Cody beat a ranked kid from North Park, pinned him, so that was good," Whaley said. "I was really pleased with Andrew. Even the matches he lost were close. He's starting to figure things out.
"Dillon didn't have his best day, but still found a way to place."
