Soroco girls basketball wins big at home, 51-15
December 7, 2012
Steamboat Springs — It was close but not for long. The Soroco High School girls basketball team blew open its game Friday night, rolling by Longmont Christian, 51-15.
The Rams led by only 12-7 after the first quarter, but they caught fire and never looked back.
"Defensively, we really played well the last three quarters," coach David Bruner said.
No kidding. Soroco gave up only eight points the remainder of the game. It led 27-9 at half.
Freshman Briana Peterson led the squad with 16 points. Shelby Meyer had nine, and Jessica Rossi scored eight.
"We got some steals out of our press, and we were able to get some closer shots," Bruner said. "That's what got us going."
The team also shot 16 for 24 from the free-throw line, a big step up from its 35 percent mark there a week ago.
