Soroco girls basketball loses in 1st round of districts

Luke Graham

— The Soroco High School girls basketball season came to an end Tuesday in the opening round of the district playoffs.

Soroco, the No. 5 seed, fell to No. 4 Rangely, 48-42.

“It was a tough loss,” Rams coach David Bruner said. “But the girls played hard.”

The Rams were without two components early on. Freshman Briana Peterson went out in the first quarter with a knee injury, and Jacey Schlegel went out in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.

The Rams were down eight at halftime but were able to battle back and had it within two with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

“We could just never get over the hump there,” Bruner said.

The Rams end the season at 14-6 overall.
