Soroco football team looks for 2-0 start
Soroco High School football faces South Park on Saturday

Steamboat Springs — A slow start left the Soroco High School football team trailing into the second half of its season opener last week before pulling out a win against Nucla. The Rams likely will need to figure things out more quickly Saturday if they're to make it 2-0.
Soroco travels Saturday to play South Park at 1 p.m. in Fairplay, and despite the fact that the Rams took a 34-27 win off the Burros last season, there's plenty of reason for Soroco to be wary.
"They are really big up front, a pretty good-sized squad between 180 and 240 pounds up front," Rams coach David Bruner said. "They run the ball pretty well behind those big guys, and that's something we've been working on all week."
At its lowest point last week, Soroco was susceptible to a good running attack, giving up more than 250 yards, mostly in the first half, to a pair of Nucla ball carriers. The Rams clamped down as the game went on, which allowed for a big victory. This week, they'll also welcome back Peyton Martindale and Matt Regan from injury, helping add depth.
Bruner said his squad is ready for the challenge.
